Feedback from Commissioners and Performers

“Anna Gallon’s music is highly singable and flows naturally from beginning to end. In her choral works, interesting elements can be found in every part, making them a joy to sing. Gallon’s knowledge of different musical genres and her broad musicianship are among her strengths, and her works are rhythmically and harmonically diverse and inventive.”

— Elisa Huovinen, conductor

“The composition was completed in December 2024, and it immediately prompted comments such as, ‘What a wonderful piece,’ ‘So fresh in F-sharp major,’ and ‘Here’s a bit of a challenge for us.’ We decided to speed up the learning process with Anna leading us through the piece. Looking back, this was a great way to understand how she had interpreted the poem, how that interpretation was reflected in the changes in the melodic line, and how the piece should be performed.”

“Anna’s musical language, and her musicianship more broadly, clearly reflect her strong professional expertise in both classical and popular music. Her background and work as a choir director and singer give her an excellent foundation for writing especially well for the voice. I have also found that Anna’s bright personality comes through not only in her live work, but also in her creative process!”

— Visa Yrjölä, conductor

“The commission process was effortless, and we received all the materials exactly on schedule. Communication with Anna was very easy and natural throughout the entire process. We were — and still are — extremely happy with the result.

Anna Gallon has a special talent for making the most of the strengths of the choral instrument, and she is not afraid to challenge a choir to push both its technical and expressive boundaries. Naiset huutakaa has received numerous enthusiastic comments from audiences (‘really effective’, ‘hair-raising’), and the piece immediately earned its place in our core repertoire. We have continued our collaboration and warmly recommend doing the same to others: Anna has both the ear and the heart for creating vocal music that stands the test of time!”
